Conflicts of interest policy

Love Dunston’s  Conflict of Interest Policy refers to any case where the personal interest of those commissioned by the charity to provide a service, or the personal interest of those volunteering for the charity, might contradict or conflict with, the interest of the charity.

This policy will outline the rules regarding conflict of interest and the responsibilities of those commissioned by Love Dunston, its volunteers and Love Dunston and set out how any such discrepancies may be resolved.

This conflict of interest policy applies to all those prospective or currently commissioned by Love Dunston, and volunteers as well as independent contractors, persons associated with, and persons acting on behalf of Love Dunston.

Love Dunston expects all those associated with the charity to act only in support of Love Dunston’s fundamental interests.

Conflict of interest may occur whenever the personal interests in a particular subject of a person commissioned or a volunteer may lead them to actions, activities or relationships that conflict with Love Dunston’s aims and values or undermine Love Dunston and may place it to disadvantage.

A conflict of interest can arise in many different situations such as

  • Volunteers or those commissioned by Love Dunston using their position within the charity to their personal advantage

  • Volunteers or those commissioned by Love Dunston engaging in activities that will bring direct or indirect profit to a competitor organisation

  • Volunteers or those commissioned by Love Dunston using connections obtained through the charity for their own private purposes

  • Volunteers or those commissioned by Love Dunston using the charity’s equipment or means to support an external business

  • Volunteers or those commissioned by Love Dunston acting in ways that may compromise the charity’s legality eg acting illegally or associating with illegal activities

The possibility that a conflict of interest may occur should be addressed and resolved before any actual damage is done. Therefore, when anyone involved or connected to Love Dunston understands or suspects that a conflict of interest exists, they should bring this matter immediately to the attention of the Senior Project Lead so corrective actions may be taken. Should the Senior Project Lead be suspected of a conflict of interest, the matter must be brought to the attention of Trustees. Should a Trustee be involved, the matter must be brought to the attention of the Chair or any other Trustee.
